Spellbound

Spellbound. Acrylic on mahogany panel, 18 by 18 inches. Homage to Sandro Bottichelli, "The Birth of Venus" Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy. "Spellbound" is my commentary on a phenomenon observed everywhere today: beautiful young people on cell phones, oblivious to the wonders that surround them, oblivious to each other and even to the wonders that they, themselves, embody right now. The museum gallery seems the perfect setting for this commentary and, for me, Botticelli’s "Birth of Venus" is the perfect and lasting tribute to the magic, majesty, poetry and power these spellbound girls unwittingly already possess.
