I relish the hand- in- jacket pose of the day, stereotypically associated now with Napoleon or the mentally ill. I also appreciated some of Strindberg's prose writings I read some time back, such as From an Occult Diary, which I was first tipped off to by reading Colin Wilson.
I read one of Strindberg's books as I remember and know his play 'Miss Julie' which I thought was great. I can't remember the title of the book but it could be the one you mentioned. This was back in the late '70s. I seem to remember that it was autobiographical, relating to his getting married and he seemed to be going out of his mind, which is probably why he has his hand in his jacket in the photo. An intelligent man and a great writer.
